Kayaking at Raystown Lake

Image
I told Jesse a while ago that I would find it absolutely fabulous if he would plan some adventure outings for us sometimes.  And, he did! It was great.  The kids went to my parents house for the weekend, as they planned themselves.  Natalee was a little jealous when she found out we were kayaking!  We borrowed kayaks from friends at church and headed out for Raystown Lake.  We started at Snyder's Run boat launch and explored the northern end of the lake. It's hard to tell here, but I loved the rocky hillside behind me. We need more practice at selfies, but not bad for an "old fashioned" camera, right?  Behind us is the ridge that I love to go mountain biking on. We headed toward the dam and then turned around. My engi-nerd examining the dam off in the distance. So, this week I went mountain biking 5 times on the Allegrippis Trails, practiced yoga once, and went kayaking once.  That's not bad for one week!  Too bad that isn'...

Watkins Glen, New York

Image
We took a day trip to the Finger Lakes of New York yesterday.  Our main stop was Watkins Glen State Park.  I figured that water + rock + canyon = cold.  However, when we got out of our car up there, we just laughed and laughed .  It was sooooooo COLD!!  All we could do was laugh.  Thankfully I wore a sweater and I threw sweatshirts in the trunk for the kids.  Jesse was out of luck.   It was funny and cold.  I'm fairly sure we never saw it out of the 50's up there.  Plus, it was windy - wouldn't you expect that near a large lake? The kids were good sports about the cold, especially at the waterfalls.  Watkins Glen has 19 waterfalls.  All of them were unique and pretty.  So that means I have plenty of pictures! We walked up around 850 stone steps to see all of the waterfalls. That's Jesse and the kids right beside the waterfall.  There were LOTS of other people here, especially at this waterfall.  ...

Camping at Cowan's Gap

Image
Probably three weeks ago we went camping at Cowan's Gap State Park.  It was really nice.  There were not too many people yet.  It was fairly quiet, too.  This was Brady and Amie's first experience tent camping, so everyone was very excited.  In fact, ever since we got home, I've been asked when we are going camping again on nearly a daily basis! (Camping, and "When are we going to Delgrosso's?") Our campsite was nice and private.  In the morning, we took the Lakeshore trail and hiked around the lake.  It was a perfect distance while we waited for our lunch guests. Cowan's Gap Lake- not very busy yet, but there were plenty of fishermen. Exploring the creek at the end of the dam Amie looks like she has a large belly here, but she definitely does not!! A pretty dogwood tree Mom, Dad, Todd, Kate, and Harvey (the dog) joined us for a hot dog lunch.  It was our belated mother's day get together.  I supposed I could p...
