Stone Valley Vista - #optoutside

Image
Once again this year, we participated in #optoutside.  We much prefer the outdoors over the shopping crowds!  It has been a few years since we hiked to the Stone Valley Vista ( way back in 2015 - look how small they children are! ). We decided to complete that hike again today.   Brady has constantly been "calling Bigfoot" lately - both at home and in the woods. It must be constantly in his brain!  This video shows him calling Bigfoot.

Worlds End State Park - Day 2

Image
During our stay at Worlds End State Park, we stayed in this cute little cabin: It was very quaint and cozy, with a fireplace for heating and two sets of double bunk beds.  There wasn't running water, but there was electricity.  In the summer time, it would be nice to open the windows and hear Loyalsock Creek's rushing waters. I read that this cabin was built by a CCC camp as part of Roosevelt's New Deal. Out back of the cabin, we had a set of stairs to access Loyalsock Creek: skipping rocks We all headed out for a hike on the High Rock Trail.  When we got to this part Grandpa and Grandma H bailed out: The trail just traversed straight up the hill over this pile of rocks.  Instead, Grandma and Grandpa went searched for a viewpoint of the waterfall we had just crossed near.  We couldn't see it from the trail, but we could tell that it was a dropoff just beyond the bridge. From this vista, you can see the visitors center below: Ri...

Worlds End State Park - Day 1

Image
If you live in or near Pennsylvania and you have not ever been to Forksville and Worlds End State Park, I would recommend going.  The town was quaint and the state park was an awesome sight to see.  Plus, the cabins are neat.  I imagine this place is much busier in the summer, but it was quiet and peaceful during our stay. Ever since I discovered that Forksville had a place that was famous for Philly Cheese steaks- Forksville General Store-, I was drooling at the thought.  I can get a great cheese steak without going to South Philly?  Yes, please.  It's not the same atmosphere as Geno's or Pat's, but it has an atmosphere of its own.  To get to Forksville General Store, we crossed a covered bridge. The much anticipated cheese steaks were absolutely worth the wait!  Brady looked at the menu and all of the options that he could put on his cheese steak.  He said, "I'll take all of it!"  Then, he wondered why he was having a har...

Rocky Ridge with Grandma and Grandpa

Image
The children have been wanted to return to Rocky Ridge.  And, they were delighted that they could show one of their favorite places to Grandma and Grandpa.  Since it is archery season, we donned our stylish orange.  Thank goodness for those bright orange soccer shirts from a few years ago. We skipped Hunter's Rocks this time and headed straight across the ridge. Brady is way up there.  Amie and Brady were having a great time running around on top of the ridge.  Near the end of the hike, Amie asked me, "Where's that rock where we squeeze through to get to the other side."  About half way across the ridge, they had run right by that one!  I wondered to Jesse about why they didn't stop when we were at that large rock. While we could still see them, they were quite a bit ahead of us.  We agreed that this was probably the only time we ever just walked by that rock formation! Natalee wasn't feeling particularly well, but she still enjoy...
